The event: on 4 June 2026, an Airports Authority of India aircraft, registration VT-CNS, made the first landing on Dholera International Airport's 3,200 m runway, a calibration and trial landing reported with the traditional water-cannon salute near Pipli village. Runway, taxiways and ATC tower were reported complete, the terminal about 75 percent. Our label: reported via regional press and trade coverage; a milestone of proof, not an opening.

Every airport gets exactly one first-landing day, and Dholera's arrived sixteen-odd years after the airport entered brochures. Worth logging carefully: what changed on 4 June, and what merely photographed well.

What the landing proves

Calibration flights test navigation aids, approach procedures and runway systems with instruments aboard: they are the aviation equivalent of a building's structural sign-off. A runway that has hosted one is a runway in commissioning pipeline, not a rendering. For a project whose critics' favourite line was "not even a single plane", the rebuttal now has a tail number.

What it does not prove

Opening dates. Between first landing and first passenger stand the terminal's completion, systems integration, DGCA licensing, trial operations and airline scheduling: months of unglamorous sequence in the best case, and this project's dates have slipped before (the honest history lives on the airport page). Sellers converted 4 June into "airport launched" within hours; buyers should convert it into exactly one updated line: airside physically done, landside and licensing in progress.

The corridor context

The landing arrived ten weeks after the expressway's inauguration and three weeks after the rail approval: 2026's milestone cluster compressing years of promise into a single spring. That clustering, more than any single event, is why our timeline page calls 2026 the proof window.
